Tension and Release
Chad Wackerman discusses and demonstrates how to add rhythmic excitement to your drumming by using unexpected rhythms, spaces and dynamics to "disrupt" the groove. For example, playing straight-eighth or sixteenth-note fills in the context of a triplet-based shuffle can create a momentary feeling of tension that heightens the impact of the music.
